Following the premiere of the BBC documentary David Bowie: The Last Five Years, the video for David Bowie's "No Plan" debuted over the weekend, to coincide with what would have been his 70th birthday.
In the mysterious Tom Hingston-directed video, rows of televisions in the rain-slick display window of Newton Electrical – a nod to Bowie's character in The Man Who Fell to Earth and Lazarus, the Bowie-penned musical that featured "No Plan" – broadcast the lyrics to the song while mesmerised onlookers congregate outside the store.
The televisions also flash images of space travel, another popular theme in Bowie's music. The video ends with the pedestrians absorbed by what they have been viewing and disappearing into the rainy night.
"No Plan" was one of the three of Bowie's final recordings – along with "Killing a Little Time" and "When I Met You" – with the singer's version appearing on the Lazarus cast recording album.
To mark Bowie's birthday, those three songs, along with "Lazarus" from Blackstar, have been repackaged as the No Plan EP, which is available now on streaming services.
